As VP of Development and Strategic Planning, Monica Gonzalez provides insight on the evolving focus and emerging trends within the sustainable built environment industry to help drive company vision. Monica is also the leader for the Consulting team at Sustainable Investment Group (SIG) and manages LEED certification and sustainability projects nationwide, with focus in Washington, D.C., Boston, and San Francisco.

Monica earned her Masters of Science in Building Construction and Integrated Facility Management from the Georgia Institute of Technology and her Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from the CIDA (formerly FIDER)-accredited Interior Design program at the University of Georgia. She became a LEED Accredited Professional in March of 2009 and has earned and maintained specialties in Building Design + Construction, Operations + Maintenance, and Interior Design + Construction.

Monica began her work with green buildings as a U.S. EPA intern while pursuing her Masters at Georgia Tech. Prior to her work at SIG, she joined a commercial real estate investment, management, and development firm to implement an in-house LEED and sustainability program for the company portfolio.

Monica has directed LEED projects covering over 20 million gross square feet and has trained hundreds of professionals in the real estate, design, and construction industries. Her LEED project experience includes the Existing Buildings: Operations + Maintenance, New Construction, Core + Shell, and Commercial Interiors rating systems for space types ranging from Class-A office and mixed-use facilities to warehouses and widely-known luxury hotel brands. Monica has also designed sustainability benchmarking systems for some of the largest asset management and property management firms.

The U.S. EPA presented Monica the National Notable Achievement Award for RCRA Resource Conservation Challenge, Region 4 for her contribution to the Sustainable Design and Green Building Toolkit for Local Governments.
